Brain injury treatment with cognitive therapy

How important is brain injury rehabilitation?

As a concerned brain injury lawyer, I am dedicated to helping my TBI clients get the care and attention they are entitled to. This includes on-going brain rehabilitation, and cognitive therapy. Because you have a TBI, probably through no fault of your own, it does not mean that you have to accept a life that is not totally what it was before your accident.

Cognitive therapy and brain rehabilitation, although a lengthy process can help you regain much of the life you enjoyed prior to your TBI, and I am able to help you negotiate your way through the minefield laid down by insurance companies who try to avoid meeting their obligations to their policy holders.

Other than medical insurance there are other options available, as most states do have cognitive therapy and brain rehabilitation institutions for residents.

Cognitive therapy could be viewed as being physiotherapy for the brain. Areas of the brain that are damaged by TBI need to be re-trained to do what they could before the accident. This may include motor skills, memory skills, and mood management. Can you imagine not being able to brush your teeth? Can you imagine not remembering whether or not you had? Try to imagine how you would feel if you could not remember having brushed your teeth. It may seem trivial to many people, but to the 1 400 000 people who are afflicted with TBI every year, this is a reality.

This is a reality that is not a necessity. The necessary reality for a person whose life has been afflicted by TBI is the reality of rehabilitative treatment using, amongst other techniques, cognitive therapy. As a traumatic brain injury attorney it is my calling to ensure that those who make use of my services receive the best deal.

No two individuals are the same, and this remains true even if the individual has suffered a traumatic brain injury. For that reason, medical institutions that specialize in brain therapy and rehabilitation will implement programs based on the needs of the individual. Too often insurance companies will approve treatment that is the bare minimum required, and often less than that, leaving their policy holder worse off than had the policy holder not received any treatment. The ‘professional support documentation’ used by most insurance companies indicate that cognitive therapy is of no use. However, ongoing MRI and brain mapping research, as well as patient recovery analysis by medical professionals proves that cognitive therapy and brain rehabilitation is essential in restoring a satisfactory quality of life to TBI patients.

Doing basic mathematics, Sudoku and crossword puzzles, with some reading and memorizing, are not enough to get your brain back to where it was. A full battery of tests is needed, to assess the full extent of the brain damage suffered, for the medical professional in attendance to devise and implement a program that will benefit the patient. The physician needs to identify the range of neuro-functional abilities and disabilities. To assist in the diagnosis and treatment, a full neuropsychological study is required.

The costs of a rehabilitation requirements analysis for cognitive therapy to help a patient recover from TBI is exorbitant, and not within the reach of many patients. Cognitive therapy needs to be regular, often, and constant. Apart from exercises the patient can do at home, frequent visits to a professional therapist are required.

I am highly experienced in civil trial, and have been practicing as a Brain Injury lawyer for over thirty years. I know what your current reality is.
